In 2005, 164 Martha Stewart congregations created a World Record for the same name congregation, and this time it was 178 Hirokazu Tanaka congregations who created a World Record on Saturday by assembling at a Tokyo auditorium. A corporate employee, Hirokazu Tanakas, 53, attempted to create this World record twice in the past.

One hundred and seventy-eight men with the same full name, Hirokazu Tanaka, gathered in Tokyo on Oct. 29 to set a new Guinness World Record. They handily overtook the previous record of 164 Martha Stewarts who gathered in the United States in 2005 to set the new record.
As much as I know, the bid to get as many Hirokazu Tanakas together as possible was actually proposed by a man named Hirokazu Tanaka, who works for one of Tokyo’s largest advertising agencies.
He was attempting to go for a world record for the third time. The two previous bids he had made, in 2011 and 2017, did not succeed since he called on people whose full names were also written in the same kanji–an extremely high bar that he had set himself.
As a result, Hirokazu Tanaka, the ad agency’s representative, contacted Guinness World Records to confirm that men whose names are pronounced Hirokazu Tanaka will be eligible for consideration for a new world record in advance of his latest challenge.
There were three to eight Hirokazu Tanakas who showed up in Shibuya Ward, according to the originator of the project, and whose ages ranged from three to eighty.
“There was a man from Vietnam who came here,” he said. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to him and the others who have taken the time to participate, even if it is a non-essential step.”
