When Former President Trump eventually realized he was leaving the Whitehouse, he quickly packed up paperwork to take with him, According to a report by Kelsey Vlamis
According to court records, during a Monday raid on Mar-a-Lago, FBI investigators found sensitive materials.
According to sources told NBC News, Trump’s staff hustled to pack away records in the final days of his presidency.
According to one insider, Trump didn’t begin to plan his resignation from the White House till after January 6.
President Donald Trump’s final days in office were hectic due to the January 6 Capitol attack, challenges to the 2020 election, and his likely second conviction.
According to an NBC News report released Saturday, amid the tumult and the realization that every election challenge was failing, Trump began telling staffers to pack up documents he meant to take with him to Mar-a-Lago.
According to two persons familiar with the situation, Trump’s aides were rapidly cramming documents and other materials into banker boxes that were subsequently delivered to Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Palm Beach club and residence.
According to one insider, despite months of making delusional claims that he had won the election, Trump only started taking his intentions to depart the White House seriously after January 6, when he was in his final two weeks in office.
The insider told NBC that the exit was “messy.” “The White House movers and the staff pushed everything into the moving trailers. Everything was packed into this storage closet at Mar-a-Lago when they arrived, with the exception of the first lady’s apparel. Everything in a box was transported there.”
The insider claimed that Trump was in a “dark place” and “didn’t care about the crates” at the time, and that “he couldn’t tell you which are your presidential papers” if you would have brought him into the room and asked.
According to court documents that were unsealed on Friday, FBI agents conducted a raid on Mar-a-Lago on Monday and took 11 boxes of classified information, some of which were marked “top secret.” The Justice Department’s raid was part of the investigation into alleged violations of three laws that govern the handling of government records, including a provision of the Espionage Act,
Trump has denied all misconduct and said he declassified every document at Mar-a-Lago, but he hasn’t provided any proof of that statement.
Based on a Saturday New York Times report, one of Trump’s attorneys apparently notified the Justice Department in June that all secret materials had been returned. However, considering that more secret documents were found on Monday, the news called into question how honest and transparent the former president and his staff had been with investigators.
A request for a response from Insider was not immediately answered by Trump’s office.
Throughout his four years in office, Trump had established a reputation for treating presidential records, which are required by law to be maintained. According to reports, Trump would rip up papers or even flush them down the toilet. Some of his former employees also stated that he would request that specific records be kept.
